On discriminativity of Zagreb indices

Zagreb indices belong to better known and better researched topological indices. We investigate here their ability to discriminate among benzenoid graphs and arrive at some quite unexpected conclusions. Along the way we establish tight (and sometimes sharp) lower and upper bounds on various classes of benzenoids.

Control in the Presence of Manipulators: Cooperative and Competitive Cases

Control and manipulation are two of the most studied types of attacks on elections. In this paper, we study the complexity of control attacks on elections in which there are manipulators. We study both the case where the “chair” who is seeking to control the election is allied with the manipulators, and the case where the manipulators seek to thwart the chair. In the latter case, we see that th...

Compilation Complexity of Common Voting Rules

In computational social choice, one important problem is to take the votes of a subelectorate (subset of the voters), and summarize them using a small number of bits. This needs to be done in such a way that, if all that we know is the summary, as well as the votes of voters outside the subelectorate, we can conclude which of the m alternatives wins. This corresponds to the notion of compilatio...

More inequalities for Laplacian indices by way of majorization

The n-tuple of Laplacian characteristic values of a graph is majorized by the conjugate sequence of its degrees. Using that result we find a collection of general inequalities for a number of Laplacian indices expressed in terms of the conjugate degrees, and then with a maximality argument, we find tight general bounds expressed in terms of the size of the vertex set n and the average degree dG...

Some remarks on the arithmetic-geometric index

Using an identity for effective resistances, we find a relationship between the arithmetic-geometric index and the global ciclicity index. Also, with the help of majorization, we find tight upper and lower bounds for the arithmetic-geometric index.
